AILO

The Association of International Life Offices (AILO) is a lobby group for foreign life insurance companies in Germany and represents more than one million German clients. The realisation of a planned legislative reform (“VVG Reform” – Life Insurance Contract Reform) is meant to make the life insurance market more transparent. Due to a certain lack of precision in the wording, there is room for an interpretation of the reform that could take away the legal basis for British or American products on the German market.

AILO stands up for its members and educates media representatives, politicians and the general public about the ambiguous wording in the new legislation and what results this could have. The group also presents possible solutions and suggestions for new wording.

public affairs was called upon to carry out a targeted PR campaign and lobby activities to position AILO as the industry spokesman and to start a discussion about the critical sections of the legislative reform. An expertise that was suitable for use in the media, a statement paper targeted directly at the politicians, targeted agenda setting and a conversation with the media in the federal press conference meant that many multipliers focused on the topic. The strategy was successful. The text of the legislation was discussed and then reworked in the German parliament thanks to the AILO initiative. In addition, there was a discussion in the media about “foreign insurance policies” as an alternative to the conservative policies on offer from German companies.
